Life-changing… and somehow the same every day

Pregnancy is supposed to be life-changing. And it is.

But somehow, it can also feel like doing the same things every day: eating, sleeping, peeing, checking movements, monitoring blood sugars, going to appointments and Googling every strange new symptom.

In this episode, I reflect on the mental load of late pregnancy, becoming more attuned to my body and our baby, preparing for birth, and the strange reality of growing an entire human while still carrying on with everyday life.

I also talk about something I didn't expect pregnancy to teach me: gender.

As a non-binary person, pregnancy has given me a shared physical experience without necessarily giving me a shared identity with other pregnant people. I expected it to feel more feminine. Instead, it has felt more human.

From feeling like a number during a consultant appointment to feeling genuinely seen by midwives learning about trans and non-binary visibility, this episode is about the contradictions of pregnancy, the extraordinary and the mundane, exhausting and beautiful, deeply personal and completely universal.

And now, with birth just around the corner, it's time for the next part.
